Escherichia coli strains are greatly important in human and animals intestinal and extraintestinal infections. For the treatment of their infections, β-lactam antibiotics are widely used. Production of beta-Lactamases are the commonest cause of bacterial resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics, which are encoded chromosomally or on plasmids and inactivate β-lactams by hydrolyzing the β-lactam ring.
